Trillium Adobe Lightroom Interest Group

Note - This group will not be offered during the 2017-2018 club year.

Last updated: April 21, 2017

Adobe Lightroom is a program designed specifically for photographers. The Lightroom Group explores how to use the program and the potential benefits of using it. We explore the various methods of entering picture files into the database, what data is actually stored in that database and how this allows us to retrieve useful information. We also emphasize the Develop Module and how it can meet very many needs for post-processing. It decreases our reliance on Photoshop or Photoshop Elements while those programs remain needed for specific tasks and integrate well with Lightroom. We examine how Lightroom provides a good workflow for approaching the processing of images. To a lesser degree, we address the other modules of the program.

Adobe Lightroom is a relatively young program and members’ experience with it varies from quite recent to a moderate level. We employ a seminar format, work through the basic methodology of using the program, discuss tips, and review problems and solutions of the members. Lightroom allows many approaches to developing and using the data base and to processing images. The group is a forum in which we can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these many options.

Martin Evening’s book, "The Adobe Lightroom Book, the complete guide for photographer" is generally considered the best reference explaining not only how to do things but why they should be done in a particular way. However, there are many other books and e-books which provide a basic understanding to get one started.

Julieanne Kost’s Blog (www.jkost.com) provides very clear and helpful videos on most aspects of Lightroom. She also highlights any recent changes in the program.

http://tv.adobe.com/product/lightroom/ provides an entry to many tutorials by many individuals.

Matt Kloskoski’s Lightroom Killer tips (www.lightroomkillertips.com) and more recently his blog (www.mattk.com) provide useful timely bits of information.
